Born in Rembang, Central Java, on 4th November 1939, Maftuh graduated from the Madinah Islamic University in Saudi Arabia in 1968. His most recent post was that of Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He was a personal secretary of the Indonesian ambassador to Saudi Arabia between 1976 and 1979. He was the chairman of the Indonesian delegation to the 2004 ministerial meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) in Jeddah and held the post of state secretary in the Abdurrahman Wahid administration. |
