Stefan Romaniw on The Ukraine:
Will the Expected Outcomes of the Orange Revolution Translate into Reality?

Dear PWHCE reader in Melbourne Australia,

You are cordially invited to a talk to be given by Mr Stefan Romaniw entitled, Will the Expected Outcomes of the Orange Revolution Translate into Reality? Stefan Romaniw, OAM is Chairman of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) and a Vice President of the World Congress of Ukrainians. He led the charge in Australia to provide support for the Orange Revolution, lobbied both the local Australian Ukrainian community to support the revolution and the Australian Government to support democracy in the Ukraine. The speaker has also presented reports on the recent Ukrainian elections in most Australian state capitals. He is currently representing the AFUO in negotiations with the Australian Government, the Australian Ukrainian Parliamentary Group and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Mr Romaniw negotiated a revised position for the Australian Government, coordinated and attended most rallies throughout Australia that supported the Orange Revolution and led an Australian delegation of international election monitors to witness the 26th December 2004 Ukrainian presidential elections. His 24 year old son Peter represented Australia in the first two rounds of the election held respectively in November and December 2004 and he kept daily contact on what was a very tense and fragile situation in the Ukraine. Peter also broke news on the BBC and ABC by describing some of the fraudulent actions taken by pro-government forces.

Mr Romaniw's talk will examine the lead up to the Orange Revolution, its effect in bringing about change and the expectations of President Yushchenko's government to deliver a new Ukraine. The Ukrainian people have demanded transparency, economic reform and a change in direction in foreign affairs so that the shackles of russian dominance will be broken, allowing Ukraine to demonstrate that it is an independent and democratic country.

This event will be held :- The hotel management would be appreciative if guests availed themselves of the opportunity to purchase a meal and/or drinks at the bar between 6:30pm and 7:00pm. The talk will commence at 7:30 PM in the upstairs function room.

The Ukraine's Orange Revolution has provided a model for bringing about political and social change and Mr Romaniw's talk is therefore relevant to democratic struggles around the world. As always there will be ample opportunity to ask questions or make comments at the end of the talk.
