Mrs Shirley Scanlan lived in Wales and London before moving to Australia forty years ago. A teacher of History and English, and a former researcher for a federal MP, Mrs Scanlan has a broad yet deep understanding of world history. Her husband, Alan Scanlan, was a Victorian Parliamentarian who served as Minister for Health and also for Special Education under Premiers Bolte and Hamer.
Shirley's talk will address the paucity of historical knowledge amongst ordinary Australians at an important time in Australian and world history. How can we chart our future if we don’t understand our past?
