Talk: Debating Ethics in Australian Parliamentary Democracy. Dear PWHCE reader in Melbourne Australia, You are cordially invited to a talk to be given by Mr Brendan Darcy entitled "Debating Ethics in Australian Parliamentary Democracy." Brendan is a Ministerial Adviser to the Federal Minister for Ageing, the Honourable Kevin Andrews MHR, who also has responsibility for developing nationally consistent laws with respect to IVF technology, human cloning and stem cell research. Mr Darcy's talk will be held: at 7:30pm, on Thursday 9th May 2002, at The Retreat Hotel (upstairs at the Carringbush function room) 226 Nicholson Street Abbotsford Victoria Australia Melways Reference 2C K8, near Johnson Street. To help cover the costs for the night, the Management would appreciate it if patrons availed themselves of the opportunity to purchase a meal and/or drinks at the bar between 6:45 and 7:00pm. Meals and drinks can be taken upstairs into the function room at the time of the talk if necessary. Mr Darcy's talk is very pertinent due to the current formulation of legislation to govern embryo stem cell research. Given the present focus on bio-ethical issues and because they transcend partisan allegiances, Mr Darcy's talk has the potential to be both informative and interesting. As always there will be ample opportunity to ask questions of the speaker and/or make comments and engage in debate at the conclusion of the talk.
