Talk: Czechoslovakia under Communism

Dear PWHCE reader in Melbourne Australia,

You are cordially invited to a talk to be given by Mrs. Mila Dvorakova on the history of Czechoslovakia under communism from 1948 to 1989. As an activist in the underground Catholic Church and as a collaborator with the dissident movement, Charter 77, Mila can provide a perspective on the challenges that she faced in opposing totalitarianism. These challenges included doing underground work as a courier and as a covert religious teacher.

Mrs Dvorakova's talk will be held :-
    at 7:30pm, on Wednesday, 18th September, 2002
    at The Retreat Hotel
(upstairs in the Carringbush function room)
      226 Nicholson Street
      Abbotsford
[(Melway ref:- 2C K8) near Johnson Street]

      (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia)
To help cover the costs for the night, the Management would appreciate it if patrons avail themselves of the opportunity to purchase a meal and/or drinks at the bar between 6-45pm and 7-00pm. Meals and drinks can be taken upstairs into the function room, if required at the time of the talk.

As many guests to the Retreat Hotel talks are people who are interested in and have often contributed to the politics of ideas at great personal cost, Mila's talk offers the opportunity to hear the perspective of a lady who was prepared to fight for what she believed in by defying a dictatorship.

As always there will be ample opportunity to ask the speaker questions and to participate in the ensuing discussion.

RSVP:- Wednesday the 11th of September, 2002
