You are cordially invited to a talk to be given by Harold Schmautz, entitled "Germany: A Crisis of Confidence". Harold Schmautz is a freelance journalist from Schwäbisch Hall, near Stuttgart, Germany. Harold is in Australia to participate in a conference being held by the Australian Monarchist Alliance.
In recent years, Harold has observed an increasing disillusionment amongst the German populace. Declining voter turnout and consumer spending are symptoms of the decline in civic spirit that appears to be taking place in Germany. The Government faces a hostile Upper House (Bundesrat), leading to supply crises analogous to Australia's 1975 crisis, but without any mechanism for constitutional resolution.
The talk will be held :-
at 6:30pm, on Wednesday 28th July 2004
at Bell's Hotel and Brewery
157 Moray Street South Melbourne
(Corner of Coventry Street)
Melway ref:- 2K E1
The hotel management would be appreciative if guests availed themselves of the opportunity to purchase a meal and/or drinks at the bar between 6:30 pm and 7:00pm. The talk will commence at 7:30 PM in the upstairs function room.
Mr Schmautz' talk will provide an insight into the tribulations and political dynamics in the most populous country in the European Union. Harold's ability to relate the German situation to an Australian audience will make this a very worthwhile talk. As always, there will be ample opportunity to ask questions and make comments at the conclusion of the talk.
